Koh Lanta – a Thai Island perfect for families with kids!
I have no idea how and when it happened, but the summer will soon be officially over, and I can already feel the gloomy fall breathing down my back. Even though some of you have just come back from holiday trips, why not plan your dream, exotic holiday for the months when it is dark and cold in Poland? Koh Lanta is a perfect choice!
Thailand – an ideal first exotic destination
If you have never travelled beyond Europe (especially with kids), you may think I’ve lost my mind. Thailand to pave the way for exotic family holidays? In fact, it is one of the top choices for your first transoceanic family trip. Asian countries are famous for their hospitality and great love for children. Don’t be surprised if everyone wants to carry your child in their arms – personally I wouldn’t get in their way 😉 Moreover, if your children are not in school yet, you can easily travel to Thailand in November or January. There are excellent connections from Europe to Bangkok, with plenty of extra offers, and the infrastructure and touristic character of Thailand make it possible to travel light, only with hand luggage.
Underrated family island
Before we went to Koh Lanta a few years back, I could only find limited information about the island. Koh Lanta, or actually Koh Lanta Yai (Koh Lanta is the name of the whole archipelago) is an island just off the coast of Krabi, on the eastern seaboard of the Andaman Sea. Most inhabitants are Muslim, but tourists can really unwind there. Plenty of golden beaches, rich accommodation offer, and numerous attractions are the main reasons why visiting it with children is such a great idea for winter! Nappies, wet wipes, and snacks are easily available, and families can feel genuinely welcome there. It is wonderful to experience such an open, friendly atmosphere. Literally every restaurant we visited cooked something specially for our infant – perfection!
Nature, landscape, chill
Beaches stretching along the whole coastline offer unforgettable sunset views. We spent many evenings on “our” beach, Lanta Klong Nin, soaking up its wonderful atmosphere ❤️ Our hotel, located right next to it, had a vast area covered in grass, perfect for frolicking kids. Incredible, huge palm trees not only looked spectacular, but also provided much-needed shade during hot, sunny days. Still, heat experienced on a Thai Island, among exotic greenery, cooled down by refreshing breeze, is far more bearable than what we struggle with in Poland, especially in cities 😉 And tropical rain is an ultra-pleasure for body and soul alike. Koh Lanta Yai is also famous for its national park offering numerous viewpoints overlooking the local flora and nearby islands. And Lanta Old Town has the atmosphere of an old western movie!
Adventures
Swimming in the sea, in 29 degrees? Go ahead! A dive into a hotel swimming pool surrounded by lush green plants? Why not! A day-long trip exploring the nearby islands, many of which are uninhabited? No problemo! Delicious, varied, big breakfasts resembling a three-course dinner? Dig in! A crazy tuk-tuk trip with children screaming with thrill and joy? Obviously! Staying in a hut with an exotic garden, to be waken up by birds singing? Only there! Having a chill, hot holiday with children is possible on Koh Lanta!
If you think how to escape the gloomy winter weather in Poland, especially if you have no experience with travelling with kids to exotic locations, Koh Lanta is a safe, beautiful choice that caters to the needs of all family members, children and adults alike. It’s good to plan ahead so that you can save some money and avoid stress. Let’s go!
