Kravica Waterfall – Bosnia’s gem
June’s almost here! As we have just spent our long May weekend in the Balkans, I would like to share with you my biggest crush: the Kravica Waterfall in Bosnia. Follow me!
A natural wonder near Mostar
The breathtaking Kravica Waterfall is just a stone’s throw from Mostar – unsurprisingly, extremely popular with tourists and totally worth a visit – a bit off the beaten track. Some say that they are the Bosnian equivalent of the famous Croatian Krka Waterfalls; I haven’t seen the Croatian ones yet, but I can tell you that the Kravica Waterfall is truly impressive. A feast for the eyes and ears!
Golden hour
The Kravica Waterfall is actually a cascade of waterfalls on the Trebizat stretching over roughly 100 meters. Due to its picturesque location among lush green trees, combined with its crystal-clear waters, swimming is irresistibly tempting, especially for kids 😉 We were lucky enough to get there after 5 p.m., when the waterfalls and surrounding forest were bathed in beautiful, golden light. A magical, cozy place, which you can admire for hours, and to which you will want to return again and again ❤️
How to get there
The waterfalls are a 50-minute drive from Mostar. There is a large parking lot available, where you can also buy the tickets (a few euros). The path leading to the waterfalls is charming and very comfortable, especially for families with strollers. Kids old enough to walk should have fun with all the obstacles, steps and tree roots, but there is a perfectly straight concrete path for toddlers as well.
The Kravica Waterfall is a true gem – not only Bosnian, but Balkan. I think it has a somewhat mystical vibe, and I felt genuinely at peace there ❤️ My infant was really chill there, and my six-year-old had a blast! There were just a handful of tourists, so if you want hate crowds, I recommend this place wholeheartedly.
